Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty

Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty

The Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty (ESG) is a non-surgical, incisionless, and minimally invasive procedure that results in weight loss through reduction of the size of the stomach. It is performed using an endoscopic suturing device attached to an endoscope which allows for recontouring and reduction of the stomach. Patients typically lose about 20% of their total body weight anywhere from 6 to 18 months.

Endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty is an option for someone who has a body mass index (BMI) of 30 or above and has struggled with weight loss despite multiple attempts with diet and lifestyle modifications. The ESG has a very favorable risk profile and is a great option for someone who may be risk averse and/or may not qualify for surgery.

The ESG takes between 45-90 minutes and is performed on an outpatient basis. Patients typically return to their daily activities after just 2-4 days.
