arm lift

Many people have fluctuations in their weight as they age, and as a consequence they develop drooping sagging excessive skin and fat underneath their arms despite dieting and weight loss. The excessive skin, once stretched out does not recoil back into it’s former shape and often makes patients feel self conscious in short sleeved shirts. An arm lift (a.k.a. Brachioplasty) is a procedure that combines liposuction to address the excessive fat deposits and a surgical excision of the excessive skin to give you a create a well-defined, trim and toned upper arm that complements your figure as well as your wardrobe. Today's arm lift techniques are safer and the scars are much less conspicuous than they have been in the past.

Procedural step: Liposuction is performed along the underside of the arm and in some situations with minimal excessive loose skin, liposuction alone is sufficient to give the contour that is desired. If excessive skin is present, an incision is made along the undersurface of the arm and the loose sagging skin is excised then trimmed, tightened and sutured in place with absorbable sutures, or stitches that will be removed within one or two weeks of the surgery. The arm is then wrapped in a compressive garment to help ensure an even contour.

Results: While there is some swelling and bruising, the results of your new trim and toned arms will be apparent almost immediately. Swelling peaks two to three days after your arm lift, typically dissipating within two weeks. Elevating your arm with pillows can help reduce swelling and increase comfort during recovery. Many of the stitches will dissolve, but those that are not self-absorbing are usually removed within a week. Patients can shower one week after the procedure, and most can go back to work two to three weeks after the procedure. It is important to avoid heavy lifting for at least six weeks. Individual instructions vary.
